If you’re getting a high school diploma, you don’t need to take the GED – that’s for people who dropped out of high school.
CLEP tests can often be used for college credit – say, if your college thinks you need to take college algebra but you think you know it already, passing the CLEP test will let you move on to a more advanced course and often get credit for the course you skipped. If you’re entering college straight from high school, chances are you don’t need to take any CLEP tests.
If you want to teach high school, look for state colleges that have education and math programs. You’ll need a bit of both. Most state colleges offer these, and there’s not much sense in paying for a top college and then teaching high school. Try Penn State.
No, you don’t need gym to apply to college. My high school didn’t even offer gym classes, and no one ever had trouble getting into college because of it. Many people don’t play or like sports. Just have a few other activities – music? Drama? Math team?
Yes, college algebra and trig are good, but college algebra is pretty much the lowest level math course that you can take in college and still get credit for. If you’re planning to teach math, you should be pretty much ready for calculus when you get to college, if you haven’t taken it already by then. Take up through pre-calc at least.
Honey, I would recommend that you focus on taking some extra English classes. Seriously, you will not get far in life if you can’t communicate effectively.
If you graduate from high school, you won’t need to take the GED test. That test is only for people who don’t graduate from high school.
CLEP tests are for adults who want to prove they have the equivalent knowledge to a college class, and they take that test to try to waive out of that college class. It’s for older adults – for example, someone who has worked in accounting for years and who wants to waive out of the beginning accounting class. So you don’t need the CLEP test.
You may need to take the SAT. A lot of colleges require that of all applicants. You would take that during your junior year. Speak to your guidance counsellor about taking that exam.
Once you know your SAT scores and your GPA (your grades), you can use a college search tool like http://www.collegeboard.com or Princeton Review to find colleges that fit your grades and test scores, and which offer your major, in the region of the country that you want to go to school in.
Some colleges require you to take gym. Some make it optional. But you do have to take it in high school, so try to get through it. You don’t have to be good at sports. You just need to deal with them, and pass the class.
If you aren’t going to graduate from high school (i.e. you drop out), you will need to obtain your GED.
As a junior, you need to take the SAT and ACT so that you can retake them your senior year to increase the probability of a better score. I personally thought the ACT was 100 times easier.
If you want to go to college, which you will in order to be a math teacher, I would recommend looking around online for colleges that specialize and focus either in education or math. I also recommend taking tours of colleges around you and ask yourself these questions:
1. do you want to live at home and go to school?
2. do you want to move out of state?
3. do you want to live in a dorm?
4. what do you want in a college?
5. what kind of math education are you interested in? Secondary (hgih school) or elementary?
then go take tours of colleges, do lots of online research on math education and recommended schools. Also, talk to students of the school your interested in to get tabs on the cultural aspect of school.
YOu need to take your gym class to get your high school diploma, but most colleges do not have gym class requirements. You can’t substitute gym for a math class. Why? because the government (both state and federal) are trying to get their finger on America’s obesity.
Yes, Algebra and Trig are musts for college especially if you’re going to be a math education major. I also recommend precalculus as well as calculus. The math you’ll encounter in college is going to be very difficult and involved as a mjor with a focus on math.
Hope this helps! GOod luck!
