If the course is taken for credit then the sco shall use passed and failed for cmi.core.lesson_status, if the sco is not take for credit the sco shall use completed and incomplete for cmi.core.lesson_status. If the sco is for credit and is marked passed or failed it is the job of the LMS to convert that passed or failed to a completed status. Most LMS systems will see a passed or failed as “completed” however some will convert passed to completed and failed to incomplete for a for credit course. You will need to test on your deployment LMS to be sure. It is important for you also to note the following:
“If cmi.core.credit is set to “credit” and there is a mastery score in the manifest (adlcp:masteryscore), then LMS can change the status to either passed or failed depending on the student’s score compared to the mastery score.”
“If there is no mastery score in the manifest the LMS cannot overwride SCO determined status.”
