Yeah, acting like someone, show-off and forgot about his/her own roots
from home country.
Some are undeniably snobbish but some are not but being perceived as snobbish simply because they speak with an accent. It is normal for Malaysians to see their fellow Malaysian who speaks accented English as being snobbish because he/she will be the odd one in a group of say some friends. In actual fact that person is not snobbish but has taken up the accent because he has stayed overseas for a long time. However there is also some who don’t speak accented English but try to fake the accent when speaking English in Malaysia because he wants “show off” ( for what i wouldn’t know ? ). This applies to all the races not only the Chinese. Don’t generalize all those who speak English with an accent as snobbish. It is only natural for a person to speak accented English after staying overseas for a long time. How he speaks English does not reflect his personality.
not all are. its just that after a few years overseas, they pick up on the foreign accent as a habit. if they speak with the foreigners, in a foreign land with a malaysian chinese accent, no body will ever understand them.
no offence to you, but I find many (not all) local chinese who did not have the chance to study abroad, get VERY jealous when hearing foreign accents spoken by chinese malaysians who’ve studied overseas. and they ACT on this jealousy. Its true.
it takes more than 2 or 3 years to develop an accent, and once you’re 20 and above you don’t develop an accent at all, no matter how long you’ve been living there.
Generally, people who have gone abroad to study tends to think that they are better than others…that they should be in a higher social position…. in other words, they are too proud……probably of too much Western influence….. However, don’t ever forget that there are humble overseas returnees too…. and these are those who get the real jobs done….those who walk the talk…..
not only the one who studied abroad but the rich people too! well, just get used to such people.
for me, it is ok cause they are just snobby, not evil!
people who study abroad are generally rich, so of course you will find that. if you look at other people who study abroad, they too can be snobby.
anybody can be snobbish if they want to.even someone who just study in malaysia.hate snobbish people!!
not only chinese but every race also like that i notice..all want to be western la …
