Repetition. Your mind needs to see the material more than once to fully absorb it. Don’t try to just memorize facts, understand them. When you ask intelligent questions while studying, you’ll remember the stuff you study a lot better. For math, just do a lot of practice questions. Also, study away from music and distractions. You want to study on a desk with a chair (not the bed or the floor). You want your environment to be some what like the test or exam room (noise level wise and position of yourself). I recommend logging off your instant messenger if you’re on, because they’re a HUGE distraction. Also, don’t cram. Cramming doesn’t work for finals (especially when you get to senior year or University). Study over a period of few days. I know this is hard to do, but try this. Review your notes the night after you get them and if you have questions, get them resolved within 48 hours. And just review everything you learned that week over the weekend. I know this is a lot to do, but trust me it’s all worth it.
Good Luck with studying.
Study in the same setting that you will be taking the test in. Sitting up at a desk with lights on is the best. Studies have shown that people retain more information when they do this. Also if you’re studying in your bed it can cause some insomnia. Or go to the library or somewhere that is out of your way that makes you study because you are there.
Read aloud.
Study with a buddy.
Make up songs to memorize things.
Draw pictures to help with explanations.
Go and explain it to someone else.
Write it as a newscast.
