WHAT SHOULD I STUDY IF I WANT TO WORK IN AN INTERNATIONAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION?
I’m starting to college soon. What should we study/major in if we wish to work in general nonprofit classification groups?
I’m smart, generally in Math. we now have the 95 normal in all Honors courses. I’m additionally great with kids.

Your area of concentration can be in just about anything to be of value to an international nonprofit organization — communications, sociology, anthropology, business, psychology, architecture, engineering, journalism, agriculture, human resources, and on and on. It depends on what it is you really want to *do* at an international nonprofit organization.
But you need to make your under grad degree have an international focus: consider choosing a minor or a second major in another language. French is in high demand for Africa, Russia is in high demand for former Soviet states, Arabic is in high demand for Northern Africa and the Middle East, Spanish is for central and South America, Portuguese for former colonies in Africa and Asia, and on and on. If you aren’t going to make it a minor or second major in a language, you need to think about how you can acquire a second language skill well enough to work in it.
You can also choose to minor or double major in gender studies, Asian studies, Latin American studies, etc.
And you should do a lot of volunteering with organizations that have a focus on multi-culture societies.
You also need to be thinking about your Master’s Degree — beyond administrative positions, international nonprofit organizations want advanced degrees. You could take a break after your undergrad and get some work experience under your belt, including applying to the PeaceCorps. AmeriCorps is also an option that will help you later. But eventually, you will need to think about returning for a Master’s if you want to work at international NPs.
There are so many groups out there, just be careful. Do some research online before you join any groups or orgs. If you like to work with kids, thats great thats what I would do too. Child development is key. if you will be in other countries maybe you can also take political science, to know how other countries run. And Outreach Youth programs in your neighborhood church will give you a great headstart. if youre interested Calvary Chavel have excellent prgms, and they’re currently planning a trip to Isarael. Good Luck!
