WILL COMPANIES TAKE YOU SERIOUS WITH AN ONLINE DEGREE?
I can’t take the time divided from my work to go behind to Texas Tech (go Red Raiders!) we am meditative about an online college, though would it be the reputable degree? we do not wish to waist the time if it isn’t starting to open the doorway to the pursuit which “requires the bachelors degree.”

I would think it depends where you get it… but otherwise I wouldn’t think it would matter. Lots of people get online degrees because they have families and can’t make a commute or a bunch of reasons. Your employers shouldn’t be able to use convienience against you.
Definitely YES. However… Read on.
I have obtained my bachelor degree and my masters degree entirely online. Both degrees are different, they are from different educational institutions, and even if they were on the same degree level, one would get accepted over the other. My bachelor degree was from Colorado Technical University, online. I graduated with highest honors; Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor in business. Then I went to pursue my love for criminal justice. I applied for graduate level courses only at the best online institutions I could possibly conjure. They included; Boston University, University of Cincinnati, and Michigan State University. I got into all of them, but not without hearing some “lip” about my previous school.
My point here is that if you plan on going to an online academic institution, you should pick the best school possible; one that is going to provide you with the best education for your buck and exert prominence.
I remember when I was applying for graduate studies at those institutions that it was much harder for me to get accepted from an institution like Colorado Technical University. The reason was that Colorado Technical University is a private institution with little academic prominence, like so many online educational venues.
If I have graduated from a brick-and-mortar university with little prominence I would’ve had better chances of getting into grad school. Also, my career options would have tremendously increased if I went to an online institution that already had a name for itself in the academic arena, like: Boston University (for example).
In the end, majority of the companies won’t look at your degree and say it was done online, but rather, they will look at your personality traits and your resume. When you graduate from an online institution, you will not have the term “ONLINE” written along the university’s or college’s name. As long as the degree is accredited regionally you should be fine. But my advice to you is to find a school that has a strong brick-and-mortar presence and offers online education, as well.
It’s going to be a longer search, but it is worth it. And don’t worry plenty of employers love graduates with typical online degrees (those with zero physical presence). My masters degree is finished and now I can get top paying positions in the field of Criminal Justice or I could farther my studies at top universities in the world. Why? Because I learned from my first mistake.
You should definitely go with the best one because you need it if you want any chance. The quality of the education is mediocre at best (in my opinion)
I personally think companies will kind of look at what school you went to and if there was 2 similar people (similar personalities, similar characteristics and both are qualified) the person that does the hiring might just go with the other one that has gone to a better school (like Texas Tech) and not the one that had gone to the online college. To me, the online colleges arent special (might not open any doors..or at most a few) at all and any good unversity (like the average state university) could gain more job opportunities.
You might want to look into any online courses for your major that Tech might offer. Online schools fit the busy working people, but i wouldnt recommend them…especially for a person that doesnt have a bachelors degree yet. and stay away from kaplan university..its a complete rip off and teh dont care about the students. they just want to make money.
There are tons of online programs. I personally attended American Intercontinental Univ. and Capella University, and have taught for various online schools including the University of Phoenix. All are accredited and solid programs. Online courses tend to vary in price, so we could say they are more expensive, but that is relative. Of course they are more expensive than a community college, but less expensive than Harvard. The price range varies.
The key is to find a program that is fully accredited. Is it worth it? YES. My career has boomed since my MBA at nearly 5 years ago. I am close to finishing my PhD through distance education, and I am at the job that I want. I know I wouldn’t be here without the education. If you are looking at work in the U.S., then you need a school that is accredited and recognized by the Dept of Ed. I can give more info on that later.
You should market yourself and not the degree or university. There are many traditional universities offering degrees that can be earned through online methods. Distance Learning Alliance has a list of these traditional online schools. Look at that if you are truly concerned with the name of the school. Good luck on your search!
